    What you should know before enrolling...

    What are the prerequisites?

    Upon enrolling, you will be required to upload a resume and documentation of proficiency in English AND your other primary working language. Here is a list of documentation options. 

    • High school diploma or equivalent from a country where the language is spoken (a complete transcript is also acceptable)
    • Seal of Biliteracy from a U.S. high school
    • College diploma or transcript showing the completion of at least 24-credit hours, B average, majority of classes taught in the relevant language
    • Teacher certification as a World Language or Bilingual teacher
    • Passing an interpreter certification exam (e.g., federal court interpreter; certification, state court interpreter exams, CCHI, NBCMI, or RID)
    • Passing a test of language proficiency from a reputable agency

    What are course requirements?

    • Attend each of the 10 live sessions (In case of an emergency, two live sessions may be missed with make-up work assigned)
    • Complete the weekly course activities (e.g., readings, discussions, reflections)
    • Actively engage in live practice activities
    • Earn a "successful completion” rating on 90% of independent activities (two chances allowed per activity)
    • Receive a minimum score of 80% on all end-of-module quizzes and the final quiz (two chances allowed per quiz)
    • Receive an average rating of "competent" on recorded interpreting assignments
    • Complete assignments in a timely manner as indicated on the course syllabus


    NOTE: In the case of a personal emergency, you may repeat the course at no cost within a year of original enrollment. If you do not meet minimum course standards, you may take the course one additional time at your own expense.

    If you need to complete a language proficiency test, there are a variety of reputable tests to choose from. Here are some options:
